Cerro is the new alias of Melbourne producer Mateo Torres Rodriguez, one half of Lay Down The Groove, the vinyl focused label and duo he runs, founded in Bogotá and now based here in Naarm/Melbourne. Where Lay Down The Groove digs into Detroit and Chicago inspired house, breaks and electro, Cerro heads somewhere more personal, dub-inflected house and cosy Balearica. This EP marking Proto Exotica's third release. It came together over four months back in Colombia, in the neighbourhood he grew up in, working off a table with nothing but a drum machine, a couple of synths and a laptop.
Copies of the record will be on hand on the night for anyone keen to grab one.
